Who was playing in the first games you went to see...?
|
My Dad took me to Arsenal V Bolton Wanderers and Nat Lofthouse was playing for Bolton and Vic Groves and Jack Kelsey for Arsenal.
Next game I went to Fulham and Jimmy Hill (Yes fucking Jimmy Hill) Johny Haynes and Tosh Chamberlain were playing.
The first time I went to West Ham Allison Cantwell and Harry Hooper were in the team.
Fuck me I am old.

Gregory, Allison, O’Farrell. Against Everton, 1953-4 We also had Bond, Cantwell and Brown that season. Everton won promotion, but we beat them 1-2, at Goodison.

Virginia Ham 3.27.
I was behind the goal in the South Bank for that one and saw Ferguson injure himself. We feared the worst when he replaced Ferguson but Best made a brilliant one handed save shortly after going in goal. Leeds were a top team at that time, as well.

I remember thinking Ljunberg looked like a great signing. Luckily, I don't consider myself good enough to be allowed anywhere near football club management.

Don't remember the date or opponent but Gregory, Cantwell, Kinsell, Foan, Sexton and Hooper were playing in an old second division league game.

West Ham v Norwich 1994/95
2-2
They scored their 2 first
Ball went on the roof, a replacement was thrown on, then a minute later the original one came back down
Their nunber 18 was sent off for something their number 16 did (i think, may have it wrong way round, might have been their 14 instead)
Think Hutch scored both ours
Dicks and Cottee weren't playing i don't think

Capitol Man 2:55 Sun Jul 22 As you know, I was convinced you are an American teenager for your childish views and insults. So, I thought I'd look back to see how old you are by finding when Arsenal drew 0-0 with Coventry with Pat Jennings in goal.
Pat Jennings played from 1977 - 1985 for Arsenal. During that time Arsenal never once drew 0-0 with Coventry in league or cups....
You are a sad liar and fantasist but perhaps you suffer from Altzheimers in your teens?

March '58 v Rotherham 8-0 (always enjoy typing that!). In truth, can't remember the whole team (I was 8) but pretty sure most of these were there: Gregory, Bond, Brown, Cantwell, Musgrove, Grice, Dick, Keeble, Malcolm, Smith, maybe Allison?
(Interestingly Wikipedia have made a mistake in their records for WHU in the 57/58 season: they have us beating Doncaster 8-0 ay home, when it was Rotherham)

My dad took me to see Arsenal Coventry at Highbury for my first game. 0-0 draw. Pat Jennings was in goal. Nothing remarkable happened. Made sure I didn’t support Arsenal though.

Just after Xmas 1969, us away at WHL. Moore, Hurst, Peters and a young Trevor Brooking who hadn't been in the side very long. Greaves and Gilzean up front for them, Jennings in goal. We won 2 - 0, Hurst & Peters. Greaves missed a pen for them.
